I am a modern painter of light. My representational oil paintings record my responses to the world and through imagery derived from personal recollections I explore notions of the sublime moment in time.
The imagery that I am drawn to has a strong sense of light and movement that conveys an almost inspirational or joyous state. My painting process begins with observations, sketches and snapshots from reality. Once in the studio I edit the images and begin painting. I build up multiple layers of oil paint to form enigmatic surfaces. Sensitively rendered brush strokes flow into and out of blurred paint. The paintings are poised between highly realistic depictions of space and light and expressive affirmations of the painted surface.
I was born in London and began oil painting ias a teenager I was fascinated by it’s viscosity and potential. I studied at Central Saint Martins College of Art And Design attaining a foundation diploma. Following this I completed a fine art degree in painting at City & Guilds of London Art School. Since then I have painted and exhibited continuously. In 2004 I had my first solo show with The Russell Gallery and was nominated for the Villiers David Award.
