As an architect I have always been interested in our built environments. I find the arrangement of built forms on an urban scale and the creation of built skylines in natural settings particularly engaging.
I am equally interested in materials and facade details and find that representing these textures through the medium of copper plate etching gives a depth in the drawing that a sketch cannot duplicate.
I have always sketched from a young age and take my sketchbook out whenever possible. My extensive architectural education also developed the sketching skills which I use in a professional capacity. My education in printmaking has largely been self taught following a week long etching workshop at the Australian Print Workshop in Melbourne during 2008. My style and media will continue to evolve as I experiment and become more proficient in other printmaking techniques but, at the moment, I enjoy the simple pleasure of fine linework using hard ground intaglio processes.
My studio is a converted shed in my garden which gives me peace and quiet for the production of more simple etchings and engraving. I also work at the Thames Barrier Print Studio in Woolwich.
