kathleen TaylorArt. Design. Illustration
I have lived in Lee Green for over 30 years. Since completing my degree in graphic design and illustration, I have worked as a graphic designer in magazine and newspaper publishing. I have always drawn and have a deep interest in art of all kinds, from ancient to very modern.
Over the past 10 years I have attended short courses and evening classes at various institutions including Blackheath Conservatoire (life drawing, oil painting and portraiture), The Royal Academy (life drawing) , The Princes School of Traditional Arts (traditional painting and drawing techniques) and the Royal Drawing School (drawing - observation and imagination, printmaking without a press plus others). In the last 5 years I have also attended lessons in a small group with artist Rachel Levitas (oil painting and water colour techniques). I feel my strength is drawing and I am also interested in traditional techniques and the process of craft and making by hand. I use natural pigments and materials whenever I can as I find inspiration in the purity of colour and a connection with other makers from the past. All the work here has been made using natural pigment colours on a traditional gesso ground on a wooden support. The colours have been sealed and then wax applied. Some have been gilded with 23.5ct gold or copper foil. Some have a final shellac layer for extra protection. Last year, I took on a studio space at Leegate in order to develop my work and to put into practice the techniques I have learnt. Please check my website for more details and other examples.
