FEATURED ARTIST Justine AdderleyHand Weaving Demonstration
Venue: Email: [email protected] Website: My pieces are inspired by the dramatic Devon landscape and my love of the beach and sea. I feel like I live in an evolving series of oil paintings. The textures, lights and colours of the scenery are constantly changing. I remain connected with my Welsh heritage, loving the traditional craft of handweaving. This ancient skill is still very much alive, especially when we can keep developing our designs which have been in some cases adapted from some very old traditional Welsh patterns. As part of Sioni Rhys Handweavers I am passionate about creating traditional hand woven Welsh blankets or throws (Carthenni). I produce all products at home and do not send patterns to a mill to be woven off. The joy of studio weaving allows me to continue to be creative throughout the entire weaving process. The design of the cloth is initially set but there is still flexibility for this to change as I weave the cloth, exploring and playing with the colour and design of the weft. Each piece of woven cloth produced is unique as no same colour combination is ever repeated. |
