Jenny Dennison WhitePrinting, Textiles,Handmade Paper
Venue: Email: My current interests are in colour, texture and surface design. I started out as a paper maker recycling used photocopy paper and then began to explore various printing techniques to embellish my paper. Monoprinting was my technique of choice for many years as I wanted to produce original, one off works rather than editions of work. This desire to produce only unique pieces continued while I explored water colour and acrylic painting, silversmithing and working with leather. My lifelong interest in textiles nurtured as a child watching my mother sew and knit clothes for 4 daughters has developed into a range of textile skills incorporating dressmaking, soft furnishing, knitting and crochet. Some years ago I returned to my interest in patchwork and started to design and quilt wall hangings, lap quilts and double bed quilts, incorporating hand printed fabric. Having been introduced to peg loom weaving, I then developed further ways to make use of the large array of yarns I had collected over many years and now regularly produce textile art work. I am interested in old tools and collect them along with textiles, beads and unusual findings mainly from my travels abroad. At the open studio event the full range of my art work and practical accessories is on display and commissions can be discussed. One main motif appears often in my work, namely the leaf of the Ginkgo Biloba tree in my garden. This ancient species of tree produces leaves of different shapes and sizes. No two leaves are exactly the same which inspires me to continue to produce unique work. |
